Falcon Field Airport
Home MenuAirport Master Plan
The Falcon Field Airport Master Plan is a comprehensive analysis of current and future airport infrastructure needs and alternatives with the purpose of providing vision and direction for the future development of the facility. The primary objective of the Airport Master Plan is to produce a long-term development program which will yield a safe, efficient, economical and environmentally compliant air transportation facility.
The Airport Master Plan provides a phased outline of proposed developments so that the City, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) can strategically plan for future infrastructure improvements. It is typical for airports to periodically update their Master Plan.
The Master Plan:
- evaluates potential aviation demand
- addresses changes in the aviation industry that could impact Airport development
- identifies and plans for potential capital projects
- obtains approval of an updated Airport Layout Plan (ALP)
- increases stakeholder and public awareness of the Airport's goals and objectives
The City of Mesa recognizes the challenges inherent in providing for the future aviation needs as well as the importance of Falcon Field to the community, particularly in view of the dramatic changes occurring in both the aviation industry and in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The cost of maintaining a viable airport is an investment which yields impressive benefits to a community. By maintaining a sound, flexible Master Plan, Falcon Field will continue to be an economic asset and a source of pride for the City of Mesa.
In August 2017, the Mesa City Council approved a $520,518 grant agreement with the FAA to update the Airport Master Plan. Coffman Associates was selected to prepare the updated plan. The process was completed in spring 2019, and the Mesa City Council approved the updated plan in July 2019. Use the links below to view the documents.
